First look: Rosewood Yangon opens its grand doors

Rosewood Yangon has opened its doors to much fanfare, taking up residence in one of the country’s grandest heritage buildings.

Rosewood Hotels has added a new landmark property to its impressive portfolio, opening Rosewood Yangon on 10 February 2020. Showcasing a fusion of contemporary Burmese style and old-world grandeur, the hotel is housed in the former New Law Courts, built in 1927 and located at the heart of the historic centre.

The Rosewood design team has transformed the iconic building to express their A Sense of Place® philosophy, reflecting the history, culture, architecture and sensibilities of the location. Guests arrive at the hotel’s majestic portico, lit by three enormous chandeliers, before stepping through two sets of iron-framed doors into the lobby.

The 205-room hotel includes Executive Rooms, which start at 45 square metres, and a collection of tastefully decorated suites, including the 90-square-metre Rosewood Suite. In addition to a rich selection of bespoke experiences, Rosewood Yangon boasts numerous recreational options including a spa, a rooftop infinity pool and a fitness studio; extensive meeting facilities such as a grand ballroom, bridal suite, event studio, Heritage Salon and three meeting rooms; and a sophisticated retail gallery and barber shop.

Five dining venues make up the varied culinary experience at the Myanmar venue, with the option for an elegant afternoon tea at Living Room & Patisserie, or a premium cigar in The Judge’s Chamber. Late 2020 will see the opening of an authentic Cantonese restaurant and the rooftop Y Bar, destined to be the jewel in the crown of the heritage building with panoramic views over the Yangon River.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® manages 28 one-of-a-kind luxury hotels, resorts and residences in 16 countries, with 19 new properties under development.
