The history of Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui
When Akorn Hoontrakul discovered a secret bay wrapped within 11.5 hectares of lush jungle on Samui in 1985, he immediately fell in love. Seven days later, the then Chairman of The Imperial Hotel Group purchased Tongsai Bay. He spent three months sleeping upon its idyllic shores dreaming up plans for an exceptional property to build on the private beachfront. Hoontrakul threw open the doors to Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui in July 1987, the first five-star luxury hotel on the Thai island. The resort opened its doors in July 1987 and became the first five-star luxury hotel on Koh Samui. In 1993, Khun Akorn sold the Imperial Hotel Group whilst retaining The Tongsai Bay, because he wanted to live out the rest of his life there with his beloved wife Chompunute. Today, the resort is located a 15-minute drive from Samui International Airport and is surrounded by nature.
