The verdant Yarra Valley, just one hour from Melbourne, has long been an alluring proposition for a day trip or a weekend away. The main attraction of this region is its cool-climate wines (in French terms, colder than Bordeaux but slightly warmer than Burgundy). These wines are best discovered by visiting a cellar door, with an experience amongst the vines where you can linger and learn. With sweeping views of the vines and beyond that, the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley, the multi-award-winning Oakridge Wines offers an array of masterclasses and tastings led by passionate oenophiles eager to impart inspiring lessons in viticulture.

It’s a recognised favourite. Oakridge has been named by Halliday Wine Companion in the top three of 2025 Top 100 Wineries and has long been recognised for its commitment to crafting wines that not only epitomise excellence, but also offer outstanding value — a winning combination. Oakridge has vineyards in the upper Yarra subregion, where the terroir – namely the fertile, rich red volcanic soil – is the secret weapon. The original owners saw the potential back in the 1980s and today Oakridge has amassed a tally of over 500 domestic and international trophies and medals.

At Oakridge, there are four different Cellar Door wine experiences where the winemakers’ passion, expertise and philosophy are brought to the table. For those short on time, the 30-minute Oakridge Experience offers a curated selection of five Oakridge wines that epitomise their award-winning house style. The 45-minute Top Rated Flight experience, meanwhile, explores a selection of the winery’s top-rated, current-release wines. The flight includes two expressions from the 864 range, which sources exceptional grapes from a Single Block within a vineyard.
