Four Seasons Jackson Hole Resort, Wyoming review

There are few properties that have graced the pages of Signature Luxury Travel & Style as often as Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole. Renowned for its ski-in, ski-out location and legendary naturalists leading immersive tours through Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge, the resort is the perfect base for adventurous travellers. A personal highlight from my winter stay was the expansive heated pool and spa area, perfectly positioned beside the slopes of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Signature factors

The Jackson Hole Ski Concierge elevates the ski experience from the outset, arranging in-house fittings at Basecamp and managing equipment with seamless efficiency. Each morning, skis and boots are waiting slopeside, by afternoon, they’re traded for hot chocolates and spiced cider.

Dining is equally considered at Steadfire Grill, the resort’s recently refreshed steakhouse, where there is a focus on local produce. Steadfire’s has partnered directly with three local ranches that supply beef, pork, bison, elk and lamb, farmed with sustainable practices, humane animal husbandry and uncompromising quality. Expect slope-side views, polished service, and theatrical touches like cocktails prepared tableside.

The concept

The Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole opened in December 2003 as the company’s first mountain resort and ski destination. The resort has a classic Wyoming ranch style, pairing basalt stone and aspen logs with refined alpine details. Giant paintings of bison and Wyoming landscapes adorn the walls with all artwork locally sourced and available to purchase.

The resort features 150 guest rooms and 150 private residences, many with fireplaces and balconies. Despite its luxury credentials, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming: families roast s’mores on the terrace, couples linger over cocktails in the Ascent Lounge, and groups gather for ski shots around heated outdoor tables at the Handle Bar.

Four Seasons is renowned for its intuitive, above-and-beyond service, and it’s in the small details that this shows. I experienced this firsthand during evening turndown, while getting ready for dinner, I declined the service but jokingly asked if it included chocolates. The answer was no, yet just five minutes later, there was a knock at the door. A staff member stood smiling, presenting a box of handmade chocolates from Le Belge Napa Valley with the words, “Here are your chocolates, Ms Wagstaff.” It’s this kind of thoughtful, responsive service that elevated the whole stay.

First impressions

My partner and I arrive via A Black Car Service from Jackson Hole Airport. As we turn toward Teton Village, the 3,185-metre peak of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort rises dramatically into view. Minutes later, we pull into the resort entrance, where our chauffeur handles luggage and we step into a cosy lobby centred around a roaring fireplace. Looking through the windows, snow-covered slopes sit temptingly close, calling me to them for a spontaneous afternoon ski. Timber, stone and soft lighting create an immediate sense of warmth, matched by a genuinely welcoming reception.

The room

Our Resort King Room blends rustic character with modern comfort. Timber accents and understated furnishings frame a plush king bed layered with six pillows, customised in advance via my Four Seasons profile, including memory foam options. On the round table in the study nook awaits a strawberry glazed cake, Jackson Hole Winery pinot noir and an edible chocolate trail map so detailed it resembles framed artwork.

The room feels warm, light-filled and quietly luxurious, with a well-stocked minibar, complimentary tea and coffee, and ample wardrobe space, complete with two thick terry-cloth bathrobes. The bathroom features a double vanity and a deep soaking tub positioned to take in views of the surrounding aspens. A small private balcony extends the connection to the outdoors, my morning ritual spot for crisp mountain air.

Top suite

The Granite Residence is the resort’s most exclusive offering. The expansive five-bedroom, five-bathroom penthouse commands over AU$20,000 per night in peak season. With wood-beamed cathedral ceilings, a full kitchen, generous living spaces and sweeping views of the Tetons, it delivers the privacy of a luxury home with full access to Four Seasons services.

On my plate

The Steakhouse

Steadfire Chophouse celebrates Wyoming’s rich bounty and untamed spirit. Steaks are sourced from three regional ranches, then kept in Steadfire’s dry ager for depth of flavour. The restaurant’s raw menu includes salmon crudo, king crab and three varieties of caviar. The bison tartare and Snake River Farms pork belly starters are equally as tempting. The dish that I won’t soon forget is the 32oz DA Prime Ribeye Tomahawk from Reminisce Ranch, served with fried onions and five sauces. The expertly marbled Angus beef is unbelievably tender and the presentation – sliced and plated alongside the bone – has my mouth watering before it is even placed on the table. The meat doesn’t need extra flavour, however, of the sauces (huckleberry, Wyoming whiskey peppercorn, mint and ginger chimichurri, horseradish and juniper and spruce tip bearnaise) the chimichurri is my favourite, the fresh mint adding lightness to a heavy dish. Shared between two, my partner and I were only just able to finish it. If you order the signature s’mores for desert, you’ll be able to roast your vanilla bean marshmallows over a table-top flame, the whipped smoked chocolate ganache is equally exciting, an acorn shaped ganache arriving in a glass bell jar filled with smoke, the bell lifted as it is placed on the table, swirling smoke dissipating before my eyes.

The Speakeasy

After dinner, we make our way to 80 Proof, the resort’s hidden speakeasy. Accessible only to guests, the door can only be opened with a room key. Inside, the space is dimly lit and intimate, with a bartender waiting behind a red marble bar. We settle into a red plaid couch layered with velvet pillows and open the cocktail menu, concealed within an old hardcover book. The creative cocktail menu is playful yet polished, with ski-inspired names. The most unique is the Black Diamond, blending reposado tequila, cucumber and lime with activated charcoal. The charcoal providing health benefits to rejuvenate me for the next morning on the slopes.

Breakfast

Breakfast is slopeside, in the Steadfire Chophouse, with an à la carte menu and Western heritage breakfast buffet. The spread includes firm favourites like smoked salmon bagels, pancakes, scrambled eggs and pastries with Wyoming flavours such as elk sausages, cheese and chive biscuits and local cheeses, including a Barely Buzzed espresso cheddar and herbed goat cheese log. The made-to-order omelette station and fresh berries are also buffet standouts.

I wish I could take home…

While a whole cattle ranch is a little ambitious, The Dry Ager from Steadfire Grill feels achievable. My mouth still waters when I think about the Tomahawk.

Spa life

The spa is a haven for rejuvenation, offering muscle recovery from skiing Jackson Hole’s high-adrenaline slopes, or simply gentle moments of relaxation. Treatments range from targeted sports recovery massages to indulgent rituals designed to soothe both body and mind. A standout is the Warm River Stone Massage, where heated smooth stones are combined with Swedish techniques to ease tension and relieve sore muscles.

For something more unique, the Still Waters CBD Sleep Ritual is the ultimate unwind. The experience begins in a private spa suite with a warm bath infused with arnica, Himalayan salt and CBD, before flowing into a customised full-body massage, gentle exfoliation for hands and feet, and a hydrating, inflammation-reducing mask. A cocooning body wrap and scalp treatment complete the ritual, leaving muscles relaxed and skin visibly replenished.

Beyond the treatment rooms, facilities include indoor hot and cold plunge pools, alongside a tranquil relaxation lounge stocked with towels on ice, herbal teas, energy bars and nuts. The wellness offering extends further with intravenous and intramuscular vitamin therapies and oxygen treatments, catering to guests looking to optimise recovery at altitude.

Staying in

The heated outdoor pool area, designed to echo the curves of the nearby Snake River, is my happy place. The pool is surrounded by four hot tubs that are especially inviting after a day on Jackson Hole’s famously steep terrain. Drinks can be enjoyed poolside or inside the Snö ’65 Après Lounge, a heated dome complete with plush cushions and throws, creating an intimate, glamping-style atmosphere.

Stepping out

Literally on our doorstep, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has two mountains, Rendezvous and Après Vous with 131 named runs across the two. Rendezvous caters for the advanced skiers who ride up to its 3,185-metre peak on the iconic red Jackson Tram.

Jackson Hole is a resort that will test all skiers. The 1,012 hectare resort is graded 50% expert, 40% intermediate and just 10% beginner. It is one of the steepest resorts I have snowboarded at with a huge 1,261 metre vertical drop from top to bottom. It’s famous for its mammoth snowfall too, with an average of 1,165cm of powder pillowed across its slopes each year.

In the afternoon, stroll through Teton Village reveals a lively après scene, with spots like the Mangy Moose offering live music and casual dining. Four Seasons can also arrange wildlife tours, private snowmobile tours, heli skiing and sleigh rides in the nearby National Elk Refuge.
